NEW YORK — Michael Vick will not face punishment from the National Football League over a shooting last month at a birthday party for the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback, ESPN reported Monday.Citing multiple unnamed NFL sources, the sports television network said Vick spoke at length with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell about the incident and his progress since he went to prison for his role in a dogfight gambling ring.No charges were filed in the shooting matter and neither the victim nor the shooter were identified by police as a result, except to say that neither was Vick. Police said the victim did not cooperate with authorities. The party was staged June 25 at Virginia Beach, near the area where Vick financed kennels for a dogfight ring that led to federal charges and the conclusion of his NFL tenure with the Atlanta Falcons. The Eagles signed Vick after he completed his prison stay with an aim of helping give a second chance to a player once among the NFL's top-paid talents and a run-pass double threat who baffled defenders with pinpoint throws and elusive runs.ESPN reported that Goodell told Vick he wanted to see him more careful in his personal matters.Vick and his attorney said the NFL player had already departed the party when the shooting took place.
